Tuesday Feb.03, 2015 vs Paris (QF Game#1)

Michael Roefs played outstanding in goal and Dylan Wettlaufer scored twice as the Navy Vets beat Paris 2-0 in the 1st game of their quarterfinal series tonight at Southwood Arena ..

Wettlaufer scored early in the 1st period to give the Vets the lead …

Roefs made several outstanding saves including 2 on breakaways to keep the game 1-0 thru the 1st period …

Wettlaufer scored again late in the 2nd period on the powerplay to give the Vets a 2-0 lead and a little bit of breathing room …

and then it was left up to Roefs who made several more outstanding saves in the 3rd period including 2 more breakaways to preserve the win …

Roefs made 27 saves for the shutout … the first playoffs shutout by a Navy Vets goalie in over a decade …

The win was also the first Vets playoff win since a 5-3 win in Norwich on Feb.24, 2009 in the Niagara District West Division Semifinals …

The Vets now lead the best-of-seven quarterfinal series 1-0 and head to Paris on Thursday night for Game #2 at 7:00 pm …

 

Thursday Feb.05, 2015 @ Paris (QF Game#2)

The Navy Vets had to hang on for a big 2-1 win tonight in Paris to go up 2-0 in their quarterfinal series !!!

Dan Haig scored what proved to be the winning goal 12 minutes into the 2nd period and assisted on Justin Elm’s goal that opened the scoring 5 minutes into the 2nd period …

Paris scored with just under 2 minutes left in the 3rd period and pulled their goalie in the last minute but were unable to solve Vets goalie Michael Roefs for the tying goal …

Roefs was outstanding again in the Vets net facing 35 shots with 20 shots alone in the 3rd period as Paris made a big push …

The 2 teams meet again in Paris for Game #3 on Saturday night @ 7:30 pm …

 

Saturday Feb.07, 2015 @ Paris (QF Game#3)

The Navy Vets lost 4-3 in Paris on Saturday night in Game #3 of their QF series which they still lead 2-1 …

Paris scored both early and late in the 1st period to take a 2-0 lead after the opening period …

The Vets quickly tied it in the 2nd period with a goal by Chris Nauts just 28 seconds in and then a shorthanded unassisted breakaway goal by Dan Haig that tied it 2-2 only 5 minutes into the middle frame …

Paris took the lead once again 3-2 just over a minute later …

With just 5 minutes left in the period Mike Gillespie scored for the Vets to send the game into the 3rd period tied 3-3 …

But under 2 minutes into the 3rd Paris scored what proved to be the winning goal and held on for the 4-3 win …

Michael Roefs had his 3rd terrific game of the series facing 45 shots in the Vets net …

The series moves back to Southwood Arena for Game #4 on Tuesday night @ 7:45 pm …

 

Tuesday Feb.10, 2015 vs Paris (QF Game#4)

The Navy Vets lost 8-2 to Paris at Southwood Arena on Tuesday night …

Paris opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game and kept rolling opening a 4-0 lead at the end of the 1st period …

They made it 5-0 early in the 2nd period before Braden Hutchison scored a shorthanded goal to put the Vets on the scoreboard …

But Paris then scored 2 more goals before Hutchison scored his 2nd of the game to make the score 7-2 after 2 periods …

Paris added another goal midway thru the 3rd period to make the final score 8-2 …

Michael Roefs and Jackson Swindells faced 32 shots in the Vets net …

Game #5 is on Wednesday night in Paris at 7pm with the series now tied 2-2 ..

 

Wednesday Feb.11, 2015 @ Paris (QF Game#5)

The Navy Vets won a BIG GAME tonight in Paris , 4-1 …  they now lead the series 3-2 with Game #6 at Southwood Arena on Friday night @ 7:45 pm …

After a scoreless 1st period the Vets scored 3 goals in less than 3 minutes midway thru the 2nd period to chase starting Paris goalie Davis McLean …

Chris Nauts , Mackenzie Langford , and Austin Richardson got the Vets goals and Tyler Lyons added a powerplay goal in the last minute of the 2nd period to give them a 4-0 lead going into the 3rd period …

Paris ruined Vets rookie goalie Jackson Swindells shutout bid when they scored with just 12 seconds left in the game …

Jake Schneider and Mike Gillespie each added 2 assists for the Vets while Richardson also had an assist to go along with his goal for a 2-point night too …

Swindells faced 33 shots in the Vets net …

Friday night’s game should be an exciting one … we need a HUGE CROWD to come out and cheer on the boys … they will be trying to win the first playoffs series since 2009 when the team was known as the Renegades …

GO VETS GO !!!!

 

Friday Feb.13, 2015 vs Paris (QF Game#6)

Paris scored a fluke goal with just under 7 mins left to win 3-2 over the Navy Vets at Southwood Arena on Friday night before a season high crowd of 861 noisy fans ..

Braden Hutchison scored in the 1st period and Dylan Wettlaufer scored in the 2nd period for the 2 Navy Vets goals …

Jackson Swindells was strong in the Vets net making several great saves while facing 39 Paris shots …

The series is now tied 3-3 .. Game #7 goes on Saturday night in Paris @ 730 pm ..  

The winner will move on to the semifinals to face an as yet to be determined opponent … the loser’s season will be done …

 

Saturday Feb.14, 2015 @ Paris (QF Game#7)

The Vets lost 7-5 on Saturday night in Paris in game 7 ending their great season ..

Paris opened a 2-0 lead after the 1st period …

the Vets tied it early in the 2nd with 2 goals just over 6 minutes apart … but Paris then scored 3 goals in less than a minute to open up a 5-2 lead after 2 periods …

the Vets made a comeback again scoring 2 goals in the first 3 minutes of the 3rd period to close to within one goal at 5-4 … but that was as close as they could get as Paris scored 20 seconds later to restore a 2-goal lead at 6-4 …

then Paris added another later in the period to go up 7-4 … the Vets scored again with 5 minutes left to bring it back to within 2 goals but could not get any closer …

Dylan Wettlaufer led the Navy Vets with 2 goals and 1 assist … Tyler Lyons and Mackenzie Langford each had a goal in what turned out to be their final junior hockey game … Braden Hutchison got the other Vets goal …

Jackson Swindells again was very strong in the Vets net facing 52 shots …

Paris now moves on to meet top place Ayr in the semifinals while Vets highway 59 rival Norwich, who won their series with Burford on Saturday night also, will face New Hamburg …

The Navy Vets had a terrific season … finishing with 21 wins after only 5 last season … and then took the defending champs to 7 games in the playoffs …

Congratulations to the entire Navy Vets organization and especially the players for a great season !!!
