Matt Paton

Matt Paton:  From Woodstock and back.

Matt Paton began playing hockey like most of us did, at a very young age.  Growing up in Woodstock the oldest of three kids to George and Leanna Paton, Matt learned to love the game of hockey at an early age.  Initially, Matt spent his young years playing here in Woodstock under the Woodstock Minor Hockey system until he decided it was time to take his game to the next level.  He eventually took his talents to the AAA center of Brantford to play for the 99ers where he was drafted from in 2007.

The Erie Otters selected Matt in the 7th round beginning his junior hockey career.  From 2007 - 2011 Matt played in 162 games for the Otters and established himself within the hockey community.

In the fall of 2011, Matt left Erie to attend Nipissing University and play for the university team in the CIS.  At Nipissing, Matt quickly became a mainstay, eventually being named the team’s captain in his latter years.  Studying Business while at Nipissing, Matt graduated with an undergraduate degree in 2015.  Following his final year at Nipissing he joined the Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL, playing 10 regular season games and 7 postseason games with the club.

Last year, Matt travelled overseas to play in Manchester of the EIHL [Elite Ice Hockey League].  Enjoying his time abroad Matt registered 31 points in 61 games for the Storm.

Matt has since moved back to his hometown where he is surrounded by an array of family and friends.  He has now made it part of his life to give back to the hockey community of Woodstock.  We are thrilled to have Matt back helping the club.
